2024 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION

Voter turnout of the citizen voting age population in Travis County was 62% for the 2024 presidential election, the third highest turnout seen in Travis County in this type of election since tracking of this indicator began.

More votes were cast in the 2020 election than in any previous election. Although more votes were cast in the 2024 election than in the 2008 election, the turnout of the adult citizen population was lower. A total of 587,090 Travis County residents cast votes in 2024, compared to 612,696 in 2020.

2022 MIDTERM ELECTIONS

Voter turnout of the citizen voting age population in Travis County was 49% for the 2022 state/gubernatorial election, the second highest turnout seen in Travis County in this type of election since tracking of this indicator began.

More votes were cast in the 2018 election than in the previous two elections. A total of 486,616 Travis County residents cast votes in 2018, compared to 464,186 in 2022.

INCREASE IN HISPANIC AND ASIAN VOTES

In 2018, Travis County voter turnout increased for all racial and ethnic groups. There was a 114% increase in the number of Hispanics and Asians casting votes in the 2016 election when compared to the 2012 election.

INCREASE IN HISPANIC VOTE

There was a 67% increase in the number of Hispanics casting votes in the 2016 election when compared to the 2012 election. There was also an increase in the number of voters identified as White or Other. There was a decline in the numbers of Asian and Black voters from 2012 to 2016.

Opinion Analysts found the lowest voter turnout rates among Asian and Hispanic voters. This data is for the 2016 Gubernatorial election.

VOTER TURNOUT BY AGE

During the 2016 presidential election, 54% of registered 18 to 24 year old voters cast a vote in the election, compared to 74% of registered voters age 65 and up and 73% of registered voters age 55 to 64.

If the under 35 population voted at the same rate as their parents, would easily surpass our community goal of 65% voter turnout.
