2020 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION

Voter turnout of the citizen voting age population in Travis County was 71% for the 2020 presidential election, better than the 61% turnout for the 2016 election and higher than the 65% voter turnout in 2008.

More votes were cast in the 2020 election than in all previous elections. 612,696 Travis County residents cast votes last November, an increase of more than 135,000 voters from the 2016 election.

WHERE DO WE STAND?

Voter turnout of the citizen voting age population in Travis County was 59% for the 2018 state/gubernatorial election, the highest turnout seen in Travis County in this type of election since tracking of this indicator began.

More votes were cast in the 2018 election than in the previous two elections. 486,616 Travis County residents cast votes last November, an 80% increase over the 2014 election where 270,005 votes were cast.

INCREASE IN HISPANIC AND ASIAN VOTES

In 2018, Travis County voter turnout increased for all racial and ethnic groups. There was a 114% increase in the number of Hispanics and Asians casting votes in the 2016 election when compared to the 2012 election.

A FOCUS ON EQUITY

Opinion Analysts found the lowest voter turnout rates among Asian and Hispanic voters. This data is for the 2016 Gubernatorial election.

VOTER TURNOUT BY AGE

During the 2016 presidential election, 54% of registered 18 to 24 year old voters cast a vote in the election, compared to 74% of registered voters age 65 and up and 73% of registered voters age 55 to 64.

If the under 35 population voted at the same rate as their parents, would easily surpass our community goal of 65% voter turnout.
